Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Samsung Ups The Ante

This just got in, fresh sourced from Samsung which I had the chance to read up this morning. Check out the details below. I was pretty impressed by the article so let me share it here.

As many of you are well aware, Samsung has done a fantastic job of allowing the freedom of creativity and innovation in many of their recent products, including the Samsung Galaxy SIII and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Their latest product is no exception. At the IFA (International Franchise Association) in Berlin today, the technology giant held the Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012 Press Conference, where the company unveiled several exciting products, the most anticipated of these being the Galaxy Note 2.

Referring to the Galaxy Note 2, "Many mobile operators have shown great anticipation, 26 in over 18 countries," said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. It's safe to say that the device will likely be in high demand and that there will be quite a bit of competition between companies to offer the lowest and most appealing price to consumers.

"Samsung’s philosophy is and will always be to provide customers with the best service based on the latest technology and innovations, regardless of any difficulties," stated Shin.

"Before we launched the Galaxy note in Berlin last year, there were smart phones and tablets, but nothing in between," explained Jean-Daniel Ayme, VP of European Telecommunication Operations. “We're taking it one step further with the Galaxy Note 2. It's the most powerful smartphone in the marketplace.”

“The enhancements begin with the new S Pen.” Enhancements to the S pen include increased pressure sensitivity, better grip, and a rubber tip. "When you write with it, you will be amazed at the precision."
The Glaxy Note 2 features a beautiful display, with a 16:9 screen ratio and a 5 by 5 HD AMOLED display to boast an “ unparalleled viewing experience. Although the screen is bigger, the body of the phone is not,” stated Ayme. And the phone is kept light, as it weighs in at only 80 grams.

After going over the hardware specs, Ayme transitioned on to the really exciting part: the unique features of the device. “Let’s talk multitasking; with Galaxy Note 2 you will be able to do more.”

Air View: Gives you a preview of various contents. "Hover S Pen over something, an email for example, and you will see information from that email. In your gallery, you get a very nice display of the pictures in your album without opening it. So you can easily see if the picture you’re looking for is in that album or not."

Popup Note: “When you have to quickly jot down and address or number, there’s never a pen and paper, around, never. Pop out the pen while talking, and you can write it down.Gives you pen and paper whenever you need one. Press down on the button on the S pen and it will change the preset color to something else.”

Popup Video: You can watch your video while you’re doing other things, like reading and e-mail'or checking in with friends. And the world let out a big 'hurrah!"

Easy Clip: As soon as you select an area with the S pen by drawing a shape around the part of an image or web page you wish to save, you can easily clip it and share it through an e-mail, MMS message, or other sharing options! Wow, innovation. “Once you try this, you will love it, too.”

The S Pen "allows you to get away from the keyboard and really personalize things." Samsung definitely understands people who love journals and personalization.

Photo Note: Allows you to jot down quick thoughts and comments on pictures you would take. You can flip pictures over to write something on the back. “A very nice blend of analog and digital, I think.”

Continuing on the topic of personalization and creativity, Ayme went on to describe the Idea Visualizer, which “allows you to express your ideas and add some color to what you’re trying to say.”

He then explained that the company has been working closely with an array of developers in order to produce apps optimized for use with the S Pen. "Sketchbook, for example, has all the tools you need to draw, paint and sketch, which are only enhanced by the use of the S Pen." Ayme also mentioned an app called Draw Movie, which seems to have the exact same object as an earlier game, Draw Something, originally made awesome by OMGPOP! and then subsequently purchased and dealt with poorly by social gaming giant Zynga. Hopefully Draw Movie will be more user-friendly and fun to use.

The company has also spent a lot of time producing accessories and tools that will support the Galazy Note 2. Premium-grade accessories made specifically for the Galaxy Note 2 include flip covers, protective covers, docking stations and many more.

As Ayme concluded the segment on the Galaxy Note 2, he promised that customers who own the Samsung Galaxy SIII, the first Galaxy Note, or the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will receive updates to the latest version of Jelly Bean soon and once that happens, data will be available to be synchronized throughout their Samsung devices.

Official Specs:Android Version: 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

Emergency Action Force of Malaysia - PTCM

Undoubtedly, sliding down a fire pole has got to be on the must-do-before-I-die list for many individuals; or at the very least, the ultimate playground equipment for children having watched Mickey’s Fire Brigade since 1935. But even a simple two-storey fixture can become dangerous if one does not know how to descend properly, resulting in fractures or broken appendages.

This was one of the few commonly overlooked lessons volunteers learnt at the first training session held by the Emergency Action Force of Malaysia, or PTCM, at Bandar Puchong Jaya’s Fire Department. PTCM serves as Malaysia’s very own rescue team in the event of unforeseeable catastrophes. This first training session held for the Petaling Jaya faction sought to equip willing civilians with the right knowledge to fight flames in the event of a blazing calamity.

“Malaysia has state-of-the-art facilities when it comes to emergencies. However, we must also acknowledge the fact that it takes time for authorities to arrive at the scene upon receiving a distress call and occasionally, the time taken to arrive at a location is time preciously wasted,” commented Mr. Alex Foo, chief officer for the Petaling Jaya district.

As with any crisis, time is a luxury none can afford to spend by simply standing on the sidelines. Dire situations call for immediate action; and sometimes, the best help comes from the people who are simply passing by. A small fire can grow to become a fiery monstrosity consuming a building in less than two minutes, so every second counts when it comes to rescuing. Nonetheless, not just anyone is able to jump into a burning building and start saving lives like a heroic Samaritan. PTCM hopes to nurture these invisible heroes by conducting a series of training sessions in order to provide the latter with essential tricks-of-the-trade; thus, more people will be prepared in the face of imminent danger.

“A lot of Malaysians have the right mindset and are well-intentioned, but not everyone knows how to react when disaster strikes. PTCM is here to help them with that.”

During the training session, squeaks resonated throughout the training venue as volunteers slid down the fire pole for the first time. Excited as they were, each was mindful of the appropriate steps to take when doing so and was carefully guided by the firemen, who kept an ever-watchful eye. As the day progressed, participants practiced with fire extinguishers and worked together to grapple surprisingly heavy water hoses, all the while maintaining a steady stance as water was pumped from a nearby fire hydrant.

“The activities are fun,” said Eme Maya from Puchong, armed with an extinguisher, “but I keep reminding myself that a real fire would be anything but fun. I’m glad I did this.”

For their second training session, volunteers were entreated to work alongside rescue dogs and to experience firsthand what it means to engage in a search-and-rescue operation. If working with a team of strangers is unnerving, imagine having an eighty-pound canine for a teammate, then, who reacts to every single tick or gesture produced by your anxious self. National Geographic documentaries make K9 training look easy, as if man’s best friend was naturally blessed with acute senses just for the sole purpose of tracking and locating missing articles or human beings—so much so that many forget our four legged friends also rely heavily on their handlers to provide accurate instructions.

“During an emergency, we need all the help we can get. More importantly, we need the right kind of help. For instance, if we were trying to locate victims of a collapsed building, we could really use a trained K9 team to assist us in pinpointing the victims’ location, and this is also important in the prevention of accidents especially when heavy machinery is involved,” explained Mr. Alex Foo.

ABOUT PTCM

PTCM is a community volunteer organization working hand-in-hand with rescue and emergency authorities to assist in emergency first response situations. It brings together people of all walks of life, and equips them with appropriate emergency response skills and people management skills to act quickly and appropriately in the face of an emergency, be it a car accident, mugging, fire or natural disasters. More importantly, it seeks to nurture a group of individuals capable of reacting expeditiously and efficiently upon receiving distress signals. With its experience and affiliations with the fire departments, police force, and hospitals, PTCM aspires to create a safer Malaysia by serving the local community in fostering likeminded ardent youths and assisting governmental agencies during emergencies.

PTCM Petaling Jaya is welcoming new volunteers with a community spirit who would like to contribute to their broader community in a positive way. Join us on www.facebook.com/PTCM.DP or contact our Liaison Officer, Mr. Linus Chee, at 011-1626-1880 if you’re interested in volunteering for a greater cause.

UMW Toyota Motor Takes Underprivileged Children On A Pre-Raya Shopping Spree

In the spirit of caring and sharing during the holy month of  Ramadan, UMW Toyota Motor has brought Hari Raya joy to the underprivileged children from Asrama Damai, Kuang Selangor. This annual programme was organised as part of the Staff Volunteer Programme to inculcate a spirit of volunteerism and community service among the UMW Toyota Motor personnel. Over 30 volunteers from UMW Toyota Motor played host to more than 30 children during a special shopping treat cum breaking of fast treat at One Utama.

Volunteers and children for a group photo after a fun and exciting day

The Ramadhan ‘double joy’ began with a fully sponsored “Baju Raya” shopping spree and led up to a Buka Puasa session at the One World Hotel. The children aged between 7 to 15 years were treated to a lavish spread of Buka Puasa delicacies. As an additional gift they were also given duit raya. This outreach programme was intended to assure these children that they have friends who care and are not alone in this world.

The volunteers from UMW Toyota Motor were each assigned a child from the shelter. Their task for the day included taking the child shopping for their Hari Raya clothes and shoes as well as enjoying the attractions of the shopping mall since these children seldom get the opportunity to visit such places. This outing was an opportune time for the volunteers to build rapport with the children and foster the Hari Raya spirit of giving and sharing.

Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor and wife Datin Azimar Aziz presenting duit raya to the children

According to Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, “For every family, festivals are a time for joy, togetherness and celebration. Children and adults alike gather for feasting and laughter, putting aside school and work to spend time with loved ones to keep family ties aflame. While most families are celebrating however, it is just another ordinary day for children in welfare homes. This is why we make a special effort to spread a little cheer to charity homes by treating them to a shopping spree during this festive season. We hope to become a part of the ‘family’ that they never had.”

UMW Toyota Motor has been organizing special events for children in welfare homes during festive seasons since 2002 as part of their social contribution to the less fortunate. Over the years, the festive celebrations have become a much-anticipated event not only among homes but also for staff volunteers.

“The underlying message is that the disparity between the haves and have-nots can be reduced if we all share our excesses. Big corporations have a role to play in driving initiatives like this and the folks at UMW Toyota are happy to be able to lend a helping hand to those who need it”, explained Datuk Ismet Suki.

It's time to Berbuka Puasa - Volunteers and children after Raya shopping spree

The Staff Volunteer Programme is part of the Philanthropic pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). UMW Toyota Motor’s commitment to CSR has been an integral part of its corporate culture since it was established in 1982. Its CSR approach is consonant with its philosophy of ‘A history of service to society’, where UMW Toyota Motor continually seeks opportunities to contribute to the communities where they operate their business.
